Maybe I should work for the Chamber of Commerce… The month of September in Reno has been exhausting. So far I've attended the Rib Cook-off in Sparks, Labor Day events in Virginia City (2 days with a Victorian Tea, parade and train battle), Balloon races, Camel Races, Cyclocross event and now the International Air Races.

Whew! I'm exhausted just typing all those events. And there's still a few September events left to attend. Anyway… the Air Races.

Wow is not really a word; my Oxford English dictionary calls it an independent formation. Okay, whatever it is, wow is the best word to describe the International Air Races. I got a pit pass to get up close to the action and saw incredible airplanes from all over the world. Pilots are a pretty brave bunch, in my estimation, and I met a lady pilot who proudly said she goes 200 + mph in her sport class plane and loves it! Different strokes, I guess. I was nervous just standing by her plane. It looked too small to get off the ground and maneuver those tricky air currents. Like I said, brave people.

But the day was beautiful, other photographers were a chatty bunch and the planes took off with speed, grace and agility. I watched mesmerized as they flew the race track, racing one another and landing with competence and panache.
